Lao Yang Tai Chi Course

The student will learn the Five Organ & Spirit Enlivening Qigong Set.

A set of six forms designed to teach principles of alignment, stepping, rootedness, continuity and relaxation.  The six forms also strengthen the five organs.

The Student  will also learn the Lao Yang Form of Seventy-two Postures.   This form of Tai-Chi will be taught in six sets of approximately twelve postures each.  This is an advanced form of Tai Chi Chuan.  This form is excellent for health and spiritual cultivation, as well as combat.

"This form of Tai-Chi Chuan was taught to me by Master, Lu Hung-Ping consisting of 73 postures and totaling over two hundred movements.  Teacher Lu learned this form from Yang-Shao Hou, who was the grandson of Yang Lu-Chan (founder of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan) and elder brother of Yang Chen-Fu.

This style is a "small frame" form, which means that it utilizes small circles, making it very practical for combat.  It also includes elements of Hsing-Yi Chuan and Pa-Kua Chang."

Teacher Lu's Advice regarding Lao Yang Practice

"In the beginning, learn the above six basic exercises.  It keeps both body and heart in harmony.  One should not over look these beginning exercises.  It is the foundation for attaining the highest level.  One who practices Tai Chi Chuan should realize the importance of the basic moves.  Some people like to research on theory and ignore actual practice.  That is an incorrect concept.  No matter how good your theory is, if you do not practice., it is like building a house on sand.  The foundation is not strong.  This is called "talked about eating but did not feel full".  You tell others how good something tastes, but in reality you never ate it so how can you feel full.  There are some other people who are afraid that theory is too difficult to understand.  So they just pay attention to practice.  However they did not practice correctly.  So not only did they not benefit from it, they will also have negative effects.  That is why according to the rules instructed by previous Masters, a beginner should both practice and read reference books on the subject.  It is like the wheels and the axle, neither one cannot be missing.  If one does not have sincerity, persistence, patience, determination and confidence in learning, one will not succeed.  I wrote down the aim of these exercises so that people can pay attention to it.  Tai Chi Chuan method is not easily attainable without teaching through the mouth and the heart (oral tradition).  I hope students will consider carefully and do not try to rush to complete it"
